Growing in the Christian Life is about understanding and relying on what God has done for us in Christ.
We can be confident in Jesus because of who He is-the full image of God- and what He has done- dying to reconcile a rebellious world to God.
Because Jesus is fully God and His victory is total, it is foolish and useless to move on from Him. Instead, we should grow stronger in our love for and obedience to Him.
The big idea of the coming study for February is on the passage in Colossians 2:9-23. Christ has done everything we need to be reconciled to God through his death on the cross. If we add anything to Christ, it will only weaken our confidence in Christ and undermine the work of Christ.
Paul is reiterating to the Colossians ( vv9-10) the necessity to understand the origin and completeness of life in Christ we are offered (see Col 1:16-18). Paul goes into greater detail about the nature of the false teaching and the doctrine of what we have in the fullness/completeness of Christ to explain why we need to add nothing!
This February Study is on GRACE PLACE as well as hard copies at COTG and CBC. Praying you will be blessed.
A very helpful prayer as we study Colossians together…
Good morning heavenly Father,
good morning Lord Jesus,
good morning Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father, I worship you as the creator and sustainer of the universe.
Lord Jesus, I worship you, Saviour and Lord of the world.
Holy Spirit, I worship you, sanctifier of the people of God.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father, I pray that I may live this day in your presence
and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity, three persons in one God,
have mercy upon me. Amen.

How is your reading of Colossians going? Our study this month is from Colossians 2:1-10. I have my date in the diary to meet with my study buddy next week. Have you been able to? I am really looking forward to studying this passage with my study buddy as it helps me to talk it through to understand what is going on in the text. I encourage you to do the same!
“The threat to the Colossians’ faith is what particularly provokes Paul to write this letter. There are those who undermine Jesus’ finished work by saying that a believer needs to supplement what Christ has done, perhaps through wisdom that is to be found elsewhere(compare 2v3-4) But such people deceive by their ‘fine sounding arguments.’ The heart of this message is therefore in 2v6-7- don’t move on from Christ; go deeper into Christ.” Mark Meynell
Hi sisters! Welcome to our ongoing study of the book of Colossians: Rooted! I can’t think of a better way to begin the new decade with this ongoing study! This month’s passage is Colossians 2:1-10.
The bible study questions are out in hard copy at the churches and it is also on this website. Be sure to meet with your study buddy. If you don’t have a study buddy, contact Anne Holmes. She will be very happy to connect you with someone.
I would further challenge you to read the notes on this website to help you to recollect what we have studied so far. (Sept – Nov 2019) I have found this to be so helpful, as I forget so easily. If you don’t have time, perhaps a read through of Colossians would refresh your memory. There are four chapters and will take you about 15 minutes to read- a wonderful investment in your journey with Christ.
Please know that you are loved and prayed for by our team. Please pray for us as we aim to be biblically faithful, pastorally sensitive, and culturally relevant. As we learn about God together, our hope is that as we know God better and love Him more, it will then help us understand ourselves as His image bearers where the Holy Spirit does His transforming work in us.
Our next group study is Monday, 27 January from 7:30-9:00 in the Corsham Baptist Church Hall.
Save the date! Yay!
Lots of love in our Lord Jesus Christ,
